Jen Dougherty MS, RDN, LDN

Jen was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and now lives in Nashville, Tennessee. She completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics from the University of Delaware. Her dietetic internship was completed at Lipscomb University. She then continued her education by earning a Master of Science in Nutrition at Lipscomb University.

Jen is passionate about helping individuals build a positive relationship with food and their bodies. She believes all foods fit into a balanced lifestyle and movement should be enjoyed, which should be defined by the person doing the moving. Jen works to help individuals use gentle nutrition to nourish their bodies and live a life they enjoy. She strives to build connections with her clients and to create a space in which they feel comfortable to work towards their goals.

Treatment Center Work

In addition to our outpatient clients, Horizon Nutrition Counseling has the unique privilege to integrate their nutrition philosophy and standards of practice into mental health and addiction treatment centers. We also staff the treatment centers with our expert Horizon team to ensure all clients are getting the highest quality nutrition services. Jen provides nutrition counseling and 3 weekly nutrition groups two days a week to clients in residential, PHP and IOP levels of care. This allows her to have direct transition of care to outpatient for clients as well as an deep understanding of what our Horizon clients have experienced when they have been to eating disorder treatment or needing eating disorder treatment.

Personal Training | Coaching

Jen maintains her personal training certification to provide trauma-informed body movement coaching in a safe environment. This may look like reintroducing enjoyable movement after working through exercise addiction or introducing movement for the first time. Through the work Horizon does with treatment centers, Jen has the privilege of providing group fitness classes to clients struggling with mental illness and addiction recovery. Jen’s style has made it fun, flexible, individual and healing. The laughs, the high fives, and positive encouragement that you see and hear walking by her group classes puts a smile on everyone’s faces. She creates a true healing experience.

Beyond her practice as a Dietitian, Jen loves to spend time cooking, creating new recipes, hiking, lifting weights, reading and exploring the city of Nashville.
